Here I am!

Y’all! I’m here! It’s been quite a journey of self-discovery these past 2+ years.  If you know me, you know I have always been searching for the answers to why our culture is so sick. Why are we always seeking health and only getting sicker? The U.S. spends more per capita on “healthcare” than any other country in the world.  So why are so many folks just soooo far from healthy. In true Katy fashion, I wanted to know HOW CAN I HELP? I learned about how many women were giving birth without proper education, . That they were without READ MORE

Self-Care: Using your Intuition

Wellness culture tells us to be thin, fit, well-slept, manicured, pedicured, waxed, lasered, satiated by protein shakes and water. We also need to take 1000 supplements, wake up at 5:30, sleep as long as you need, walk 10,000 steps per day, run 5 miles, lift 300 pounds, love your body, rest, take multiple bubble baths daily, ecstatic dance, meditate, make healthy whole-food meals three times per day, chew 40 times each bite, be mindful, be present at all times, process your trauma, Be happy, live laugh love….  Oof! That’s quite a list…but are these things self-care for you, or just READ MORE

Three Things Thursday – Gut edition

Healing, Nourishing, Finding Joy If you know me at all, you know I like talking about guts. Gut health is where most healing journeys will need to start. When we have damage in our guts, nothing else works quite right. So how do we start making sure our guts are working optimally? Healing Bringing in foods that are healing to the lining of the intestines. This can be well cooked veggies, bone broth, raw foods like sauerkraut and kefir, pre- and probiotics. These can help your gut begin to heal which will then make any other food you consume easier to READ MORE

Happy New Year!

So long 2021… Last year we had to walk through fire. We learn ed to live in our own power… To trust our ways of knowing and find our truth. To lean into surrender and let go of that which we can’t control. This will serve us in the new year. May you find Peace, Rest, and Ease 💜 Katy

Welcome Annie!

I would like to welcome Annie to the Sacred Roots family! Annie is a Birth and Postpartum Doula, and will be a great asset to our community. When I met Annie, I was impressed with the ease we were able to connect and quickly develop our relationship.  I’ve loved the great questions Annie asks as she delves into this work and know her thoughtful and careful work will make lasting positive impressions on her clients. Annie is finishing up her Masters degree in social work and I know she will be able to bring what she learns as a doula, READ MORE

A little of my origin story…

When I started doula work, I thought it was a stepping stone to midwifery. As I attended more births in the hospital as well as at home I realized I was desperately needed to support women in their hospital births. While homebirths are beautiful and often very intervention free, my work as an advocate and empowering source of trust in the process was needed in the hospital. As I continued my work I learned that watching women step into their power in birth, motherhood, AND life would always be a part of my life. Being a Doula has taught me READ MORE

Some things I’ve learned about me!

So it’s been over three years since I decided to start on my “health coach” journey. Since then I have learned many ways that I don’t want to work in this field (more on that at a later date) and so many ways that I DO!! Here are a few.  I DO want to be a touch stone for women who are trying to find balance, and themselves in the childbearing years. I DO want to support women from pre-conception through the first 3-5 postpartum years. I DO want to use my intuitive gifts to help guide women to find READ MORE

Is it ever going to be enough?

Sometimes what you’re doing is enough. Sometimes – and probably likely – what you’re doing is too much! We are asked to do too much. We are expected to be perfect — or least we THINK we’re expected to be perfect. Prefect skin, perfect hair, perfect body, perfect food, perfect house, perfect kids. It all needs to be perfect, but also you can’t think too much about it because you also can’t show that you’re trying to be perfect – perfection with ease – that’s the way to be. Also selfless. Don’t take care of yourself because that’s SELFISH, we’re READ MORE
